For six years, I led video production for the FAA’s largest recurrent training program, creating web-based instructional content for air traffic controllers across the country.
From inside TRACON and control centers to cockpits, dozens of ATC Towers, and deep inside Cheyenne Mountain, I chased down specialists, pilots, and real-world scenarios turning complex systems into clear and compelling stories. Following real Top 5 ATC concerns and the data-driven decisions applied to keep our skies safe, we turned those complex systems and compelling stories into clear, engaging training content.
If there was a story to chase, I was already on the plane. Each assignment diving deeper into the airspace systems that keep us safe, and the skies moving.
Web-based Recurrent Training
The training content produced for the FAA’s Web-Based Recurrent Training program was viewed by more than 14,000 air traffic controllers nationwide, twice a year, every year. Each six-month cycle covered critical topics across the National Airspace System, from Military Airspace Regulations to High-Workload Phases of Flight, from Parachute Operations to Flight Check Procedures.
Every six months we examined a new set of Top 5 challenges to the National Airspace System. These were complex topics, in areas not often viewed by the public. The projects brought rare access to restricted areas, filming inside secured facilities, collaborating with air traffic controllers, pilots, and FAA leadership.
The work took me deep into the field, earning trust and the access needed to capture the real stories behind the National Airspace System.
